This was a solo project completed in 1.5 weeks. The concept of the game is a top down RPG. The player has to explore the city and find certain NPC's, talk to them and perform quests. The player will earn some EXP when he or she has completed a quest with which the player can buy skills. The skill system is extremely basic, but it is just to show the economic aspect of the game. I've continued working on this prototype and experimenting with fighting mechanics in The Mad Fool: Bossfight!
This was another solo project completed in the next 2.5 weeks. The concept is a dynamic bossfight. I really loved the style of the previous prototype so I decided to expand this basic quest RPG and make a bossfight prototype from it. Some games that inspired the mechanics of the bossfight are: Hero Siege, the Binding of Isaac and Titan Souls. These are all top down 2D games which include bossfights. First the player has to fight three waves of different kind of enemies. I think this is very useful for the player to get familiar with the fighting controls. Then the boss spawns! I've used state diagrams to clarify the behaviour of the boss and determine the dramatic arc of the bossfight. I've also got inspiration from the Hero's Journey * as a narrative guideline.
